The multivariate ENSO index is created by comparing atmospheric pressure differences between Tahiti and Darwin (known as the Southern Oscillation Index, or SOI) AND ALSO noting the differences in sea surface temperatures across the Pacific. What results is a jagged graph showing wetter and drier than usual seasons with more accuracy than by using SOI information alone. |
